Pre-Employment Medical Examination (PEME) in Georgia

A PEME confirms that you are medically fit to work at sea under the requirements of MLC 2006 and STCW Regulation I/9, and under the specific standards of your flag administration and employer.

What the examination includes

• Full medical and occupational history review

• Physical examination by an MTA-approved physician

• Vision: acuity, colour vision and visual fields

• Hearing: pure-tone audiometry

• Cardiovascular assessment, including ECG where indicated

• Chest X-ray

• Laboratory investigations: haematology, biochemistry, urinalysis, and serology where required

• Additional flag-state or company-specific tests on request

• Specialist consultations on site if the examining physician requires them

How long it takes

Most seafarers complete the examination in two to three hours. We ask you to arrive fasting, because the blood tests are taken first.

What to bring

• Passport and Seafarer's Identity Document

• Your previous medical certificate, if you have one

• Glasses or contact lenses, if you use them

• A list of any medication you take regularly

• Any employer or flag-specific medical form supplied by your crewing agency

• Vaccination record, if available

Your certificate

Certificates are issued within 24 hours, and the same day where clinically possible. If your joining date is urgent, tell us when you book and we will plan the visit accordingly.

Fitness outcome

The examining physician records one of the standard MLC outcomes: fit for duty, fit with restrictions, temporarily unfit, or permanently unfit. If the outcome is anything other than "fit", the physician will explain what it means for your certificate, what can be corrected, and when you can be re-examined. Where a treatable finding is identified, we can arrange the follow-up here.
