Pre-Employment Medical Examination (PEME) in Georgia

The PEME confirms that your state of health meets the requirements established for working at sea, in accordance with MLC 2006 and STCW Regulation I/9, as well as the specific standards of the relevant flag administration and employer.

What the PEME includes

• Collection of medical, occupational, and immunization history by an MTA-authorized doctor

• A full physical examination by an MTA-authorized doctor

• Laboratory tests

• Instrumental and diagnostic examinations

• Specialist consultations on site, where required

• Any additional tests required by the flag administration or the employer

One visit, a complete PEME

All core tests, diagnostic procedures, specialist consultations, and the final medical assessment are carried out in the same building, within a single visit.

How long does the examination take?

Most seafarers complete the full medical examination in approximately 2 to 3 hours.

Please come to your appointment fasting (no food for 12 hours before the visit; in the morning you may drink water only).

What to bring with you

• Proof of identity (ID card, passport, or seaman's book)

• Your most recent medical certificate, if you have one

• Glasses or contact lenses, if you use them

• A list of medications you take regularly

• Any medical form required by your employer or flag administration

• Vaccination/immunization passport

Your certificate

The medical certificate is normally issued within 24 to 48 hours, and in urgent cases it can be issued the same day. If your joining date is approaching, please let us know when scheduling your visit so that we can prioritize your appointment accordingly.

Fitness conclusion

The final decision is made by the MTA-authorized doctor on the basis of the applicable requirements and the medical assessment carried out.

The conclusion is issued as one of the following:

• Fit for Duty

• Fit with Restrictions

• Temporarily Unfit

• Permanently Unfit

If the conclusion is not "Fit for Duty", the doctor will explain the reasons for the decision in detail, arrange further examinations and specialist consultations, and schedule you for a repeat examination after the appropriate period.
