PROJECTS >> SAMTSKHE-JAVAKHETI ROAD REHABILITATION The Samtskhe-Javakheti Road Rehabilitation Project aims at restoring the road and transport network in the region. With a total budget of $203,5 million, the project envisages rehabilitation of approximately 223km road in Kvemo Kartli and Samtskhe-Javakheti regions (see the map).
The road construction-rehabilitation works will be performed by companies selected through the international competitive bidding: Ashtrom International Ltd (Israel), the joint venture Papenburg/Black Sea Group (Germany-Georgia), Azerinsaatservice (Azerbaijan) and Akkord Insaat Senaye (Azerbaijan). Construction works will be performed on the following road sections: Partskhisi - Gokhnari, Gokhnari-Nardevani, Nardevani-Satkhe, Satkhe-Ninotsminda-Armenian border, Akhalkalaki-Sulda, Sulda-Kartsakhi-Turkish Border, Teleti-Koda-Asureti and Akhalkalaki Bypass.
The rehabilitation works have launched in spring 2008 and will be completed by the end of 2010. Rehabilitation of roads in Samtskhe-Javakheti and Kvemo Kartli will facilitate the trade and business development in these regions with the following expected outcomes: Expansion of international and domestic trade, creation of feasible conditions for business development and attraction of private investments, including creation of new jobs; More opportunities for the population of the Samtkhe-Javakheti region (about 250.000 residents) to develop tourism and various related economic activities; Easier connection links between the once isolated region of Samtkhe-Javakheti and the rest of Georgia thus facilitating economic integration of the region; Better satisfaction of the local population's demand for education and health care.
