On April 15, 2010, the nuts processing enterprise funded within the framework of MCG's Agribusiness Development Activity opened in Zugdidi, Samegreo Zemo-Svaneti Region of Georgia. The event was attended by the representatives of local government, MCG, CNFA, local farmers and other officials.

LLC "Westnut" was founded in 2006 and has been involved in hazelnut processing since its inception. With a grant from ADA ($125 000) and local partner's co-financing ($170 000), the Westnut, LLC has modernized outdated production technology, purchased the new processing line and constructed completely new production plant that has the capacity to process 6-7 MT of raw hazelnuts per day. The company purchases raw hazelnuts, shells, dries, sorts and sells them - mainly to CIS and eastern European buyers. As a result of project implementation more than 20 new jobs were created and up to 1000 local farmers received indirect benefit.  

Through MCG's Agribusiness Development Activity, total of 286 grant agreements have already been signed for the development of primary production, small and medium enterprises and farm service centers, with total value of up to $16.2 million. These projects are expected to lead to the creation of about 3,600 new jobs in rural Georgia.
