On July 1st, 2010, two new enterprises funded within the framework of MCG's Agribusiness Development Activity opened in Kakheti region of Georgia. The opening ceremony was attended by the representatives of local government, MCG, CNFA-Georgia and local farmers.
At 12:00, a farm service center was opened in Gurjaani district of Kakheti region. The Farm Service Center has used ADA grant assistance to establish a modern, full service farm supply and training center. The Farm Service Center (FSC) will provide inputs, veterinary supplies, small equipment and professional agronomic training and consultations for farmers. The project has created up to 10 new jobs and will benefit at least 4,000 farmers of the region.
At 14:00, the meat processing enterprise "Tela" was opened in Lagodekhi district of Kakheti region. ADA grant funding of $125,000 and local partner's matching investment of $273,000 has been used to expand and technically re-equip an existing meat processing plant, increasing the range and volume of the goods produces. The company will insure highest possible sanitary standards at all levels of production and test the products in a fully-equipped laboratory. Up to 15 new jobs were established in the enterprise and more than 100 local suppliers of carcasses and herbs were able to receive indirect benefit.
Through MCG's Agribusiness Development Activity, total of 286 grant agreements have already been signed for the development of primary production, small and medium enterprises and farm service centers, with total value of up to $16.2 million. These projects are expected to lead to the creation of about 3,600 new jobs in rural Georgia.
