PROJECTS >> REGIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT (RID)

 The Regional Infrastructure Development (RID) Project is aimed at improving municipal service delivery. With a total budget of $57,735,000, the Project provides grants to eligible government entities (local self-government, municipal enterprise and central government) for the development of infrastructure. The Project plans to rehabilitate water supply systems in Poti, Kobuleti, Kutaisi, Bakuriani and Borjomi.

The RID Project will finance the following types of projects:

Investment Projects
Works, purchasing of machinery/equipment, etc.

Development Projects
Feasibility studies, environmental studies, design works, etc.

Technical Assistance Projects
Capacity building of eligible municipal enterprise - consultancy, trainings, etc.

Funds available within the frameworks of RID Project are not sufficient to regulate all problems existing in the sector. For the purpose of joint financing, MCG is cooperating with the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), EC Delegation to Georgia and other donors, thus making it possible to implement larger-scale projects.

As a result of the Project implementation:

  • regional population will be provided with safe drinking water;
  • risk of water-borne diseases will be significantly reduced;
  • conditionsfor the development of tourism and  small and medium-sized businesses will be improved. Consequently, income generation in population will increase and living standards will improve;
  • local government and water supply companies will be able to utilize improved systems and technical assistance;
  • maintenance costs of the above-mentioned systems, currently covered from a local budget, will be reduced.
